Challenge Overview:
The K-5 Elementary STEM Design Challenge presents teams with a specific book within Children’s literature. Teams will be briefed on the piece of literature that is used as the theme for the competition. Following the briefing, teams will be expected to develop a design challenge, student materials documenting their use of the design process, and scoring rubric based upon the book. The team is expected to prepare a rationale for the activity, and give suggestions on how it might be effectively integrated at the appropriate elementary grade level(s) to support standards within science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), and other subjects as appropriate (e.g., art, social studies, English language arts). A short oral presentation to the full event participants and judges is also required.
